Added colorants stain linoleum evenly throughout the thickness, so the color of linoleum does not change with wear.

Linoleum is supplied in rolls or tiles. Rolls are mostly installed in public facilities by gluing to the subfloor. The surface of subfloor has to be very well prepared (leveled), because all the bumps and transitions show through onto the surface of linoleum. From linoleum borders and inlays can be made that give the space a unique look. Linoleum in tiles is used in residential and commercial buildings, installed by gluing or floating.

Linoleum is very resistant to abrasion and scratches, the surface does not fade, it is antistatic (repels dust particles), inhibits the growth of mould and microscopic organisms. Therefore, it is often used in places which require cleanliness and wear resistance (hospitals, kindergartens, schools). The weakness of linoleum is that it requires regular maintenance of surface protection. Some linoleum is treated with surface protection immediately after installation, while others have already pre-applied protection which is renewed only during use (2-3 times a year). Linoleum with an unprotected surface is a porous material and may be subject to water penetration and alkali may cause permanent damage.
